Driving all night with the Bateheads!

Killer weekend update and part II

I've neglected an update until now because I wasn't sure if that trip was going to be my last... Regardless, it was an awesome weekend and absolutely hilarious! Shelly and I took over 100 pictures and about 20 videos to document our hunting adventure. They are all a crack up and some terms for black mail because... Well, after so many hours in a tree stand without a shower, sleep, real food, bathroom breaks and dressed like a giant leafy sniper, YOU TURN A BIT CRAZY. For an idea, I did post a few videos on Facebook. In one Shelly gets a little personal about her need to 'take a dump.' If you need a laugh, check it out. She's classic!

Ok. I've got to just reel off the facts. Its 530 in the morn and we're only gonna hit one more reception zone before its too late. This is from my phone.
-shell and I were in a tree, side by side about 15 ft up on two tree stands.
-saw a bunch of elk, close and all around us several times. But only mamas, babies and some spike elk. NO big bulls, which is what my tag is for.
-last morning of the hunt, elk were all around, we were rigormortis still for 30 minutes hoping for the big one to come out.
-'we' also had a tag for a cow elk and discussed the idea of filling it if it were the last day and NO big bull showed.
-the elk started going back into the trees, only one cow elk left, so I drew back, shelly started recording and we shot for success! I did have a killer weekend all caught on video and we witnessed the grousome after math. It was intense! All of it.
PART II is now in full swing to fill my $350 lottery tag. This time Dad and uncle Myron are doing all they can to... have one more killer wknd. Catch ya later. Wish me luck.

1st beginner triathalon

This was a 1.5 mile run, 6.2 mile bike and 200yrd swim. (8 touches in the pool) Our Kamas Rec.center sponsered it.
It was a great race to start out with. I can see now why I've heard that they are addicting. You can beat some in a certain event/section and then those same people will come back and kill you in another .... Like swimming for me. Its rough in there with all those swimmers coming at you from every direction. I accidently went an extra lap too...Which about drown me.! There were 123 that
competed and only 8 were local yocals.

Top picture is right before the race. And the 2nd is our loot.
My friend Emily is on the right. She's 30 with 4 kids and kicks butt, got 4th in her age group and beat me by about a minute. Then sassy Eric of course finished before us and got 3rd in his age. I ended up taking 5th for mine.

It was awesome. And I'm sold. I think I'll go find another one to sign up for. ***especially since I'm not prego, not breast feeding and no lil baby! More the reason.

Youth Conference video I made.

I had so much fun with the youth of our ward. The Mutual theme for this year is 1 timothy 4:12 "..Be an example of the believers, in word, in thought, in conversation, in purity.." So we had shirts made with "I'm a Believer" on the front, the scripture on the bottom front and our ward FRANCIS 1 on the back. They were bright so we would "stand out of the crowd". I think it worked.

Hoping for a "killer" weekend! LITERALLY.

Considering there are only 27 hours until departure I better get an update out. I need all the fingers crossed and good lucks I can get for my weekend in the wilderness.

This Saturday starts the ARCHERY ELK HUNT and this year I've got the license to KILL....
a Big Ol' Grampa Elk.

Some of you that know me, won't be totally surprised, because I have gone before. But it has been A LONG time and even I am a bit surprised/nervous/anxious that I could kill a HUGE animal with a bow and arrow.

Dad, of course, is going andwill be sniffing out, calling in and wide eyed whispering all details of attack. He's the gears behind this trip. I also talked my sister Shelly into coming along to ensure my sanity and of course pure enjoyment. She will also be the photographer/videographer of the trip. Which should make for a great slideshow afterwards. It'll be awesome!!

This Elk hunt is not just any old elk hunt either. My dad has been putting preference points in for me each year for 14 years. These are points that you pay $5 to receive. The more you have the more likely you are to draw out on "Limited entry" hunts which means Big Bull Elk areas, Moose, Bear...etc. My dad has been asking me for years, if I was ready to put in for the "Big hunt"? My 3 answers were usually the same. Eh? no dad, I have soccer and I can't miss. No dad. I don't really want to go. or NO way dad..I'm having a baby here.

Well this last fall, I got the annual question and thought a little longer about it then decided, what the heck. Let's do this. He also offered to pay which made the decision that much easier. Killing animals these days is kind of expensive.

He put me in for the ARCHERY ONLY Limited entry Bull Elk Drawing. For the San Juan area. Which about 1500 people put in for and only myself and 20 others actually drew out.
I got my letter in the mail that confirmed my results in May and since then.....Well, I've been wondering what I got myself into. haha. And of course I've been shooting my bow and trying to get all geared up for this BIG weekend. I have a month to get an Elk but a weekend too really make it happen. If I don't get one....It'll take A lot to figure out work, kids, church, time to make it down again. So, the pressure is on.

I wrote a little of my hunting history and then decided against it. If interested it can be read here.

**And I know. Some people, especially those that were NEVER around hunting, are VERY anti hunting and anti killing anything for that matter ....In fact, I married one. Which does make me laugh just a little. Because, Dave is seriously meant to be a Buddhist. Did you know:
-He never kills a spider, no matter how ugly it is. Always catches it and sends it on it's way outside.
He may KILL me for this though...also
-I've caught him "saving" earthworms from the porch of our 1st house during a rain storm. Because heaven forbid they writhel up and dry to the concrete.
I'm just saying. It's a bit mind boggling for both of us. He thinks I'm a barbarian or something....haha. But is also sweet enough to support my adventures and my "Breona.com #20" moto.......By watching the kids at home. He is too kind to even consider being a bystander.

Here's a glimpse of what I've been up to the last couple months..

Lava Hotsprings 09

I found this post "saved" and unpublished so I thought I would add a few more pics and put it up.

This is our annual extended family camping trip. We went early July this year and as always we had a blast. Gramps owns property on the Lava Ranch and my family has been making these yearly trips since I was born.
We all look forward to our time together. We ride bikes, 4wheelers, motorcycles, play endless games, sing and play around the fire ( this year dave brought his guitar and violin), go swimming, hot pots and eat delicious meals!!!

Helmet kiss...

Beckham was in HEAVEN with all the 4 wheelers, the motorcycles and we brought his little balance bike that he cruised all over camp on.

Dave singing to us around the fire. He even through in a little "wheels on the bus" for Beckham. It was DANG cute.

A little rope swinging at the pond. .. .. Some of us trying not to get wet

My assistant in swinging....Shelly's buffkin boyfriend Jason....Who wanted to get wet.

Shelly in her sweet motorcycle shirt . With Tarzan.

And some who tried to stay dry but in the end got soaked. Love you Heath
